LOCATION: Brooklyn, NY

DESCRIPTION: NYES fully removed and cleaned up asbestos from steam tunnels located under the Hospital’s parking lot, which connect the heating system in the machine house to the buildings across the facility. The removal was completed while the steam heating system was on and not all sections could be closed at the same time.

LOCATION: JFK Airport, Queens, NY

DESCRIPTION: NYES completed an asbestos abatement of the building’s 40,000 ft2 acoustic (popcorn) ceiling. To complete the job, we built a scaffold dance platform to perform the asbestos abatement in four different phases. We engineered the exhaust system to avoid the need to remove any windows.

CLIENT: Westbeth Center for the Arts

OWNER: Westbeth Housing Development Fund Corp.

LOCATION: New York, NY

DESCRIPTION: Westbeth, home to artists’ lofts, studios, and cultural events, is on the National List of Historic Places and is an official New York City landmark. NYES completed asbestos and lead abatement of historical ornaments on the building façade as well as improved the appearance and hygiene by cleaning bird droppings.

LOCATION: LaGuardia Airport, Queens, NY

DESCRIPTION: In Phase I, NYES abated asbestos-containing terracotta blocks with tar/flashing and board insulation from the north façade of Hangars 2 and 4. In Phase II, abatement consisted of non-friable asbestos-containing terracotta blocks with tar/flashing material and friable board material from the entire north façade of the same hangers. NYES also prepared the floor of the hangar to prevent water leaks.

Andrew Carnegie Mansion

OWNER: Smithsonian Institution

LOCATION: New York, NY

DESCRIPTION: For this historic building built at the turn of the 20th century, NYES performed careful demolition and abatement of various areas within the Mansion. Lead was abated on 17,530 ft2 of walls, 9,630 ft2 of ceilings, and 3,900 ft2 of wall tiles. We removed lead paint in accordance with all the lead standards in the industry.

CLIENT & OWNER: New York City Metropolitan Transit Authority

LOCATION: Queens, NY

DESCRIPTION: NYES removed 46,000 ft2 of roof membrane and concrete planking without disturbing bus depot operations. We also reinstalled metal decking.
